Food Intolerance Testing

Over two thousand years ago the Chinese observed that some people responded badly to certain foods causing deterioration in physical and mental health.

As the quality of the food we eat has deteriorated and the influence of “Convenience” processed Foods and Fast Foods, “on-the-run”, the strain on our bodies’ digestive system has increased dramatically.

The effects of making poor choices in our nutrition is demonstrated almost every night on popular television through programmes such as “You Are What You Eat” and “The Diet Doctors”.

While less than 2% of the population suffer from classical food allergies, some researchers estimate that up to 80% of the population can suffer from food intolerances. It can affect anyone at any age, but since symptoms often occur some time after the food has been eaten it can be difficult to find the problem food without being tested for intolerances. For example, the milk or bread eaten on one day could be the cause of joint pain three days later.

Some food intolerances are caused by digestive enzyme deficiencies or chemical sensitivity, others by poor gut bacteria balance, intestinal parasites, candidiasis or leaky gut syndrome.

Frequent early symptoms of food intolerances include:

  • Tiredness and Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Joint Pain
  • Weight Problems
  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • Depression
  • Skin Problems
  • Bloating
  • Sinus Problems
  • Insomnia

The good news is that not all intolerances are permanent. The beneficial result of a directed Elimination Diet Plan and either acupuncture or nutritional / herbal remedies to strengthen your digestive function and eliminatory organs means many foods can be safely and comfortably reintroduced to the regular diet at a later date.

Acuhealth offers 3 methods to identify and treat food intolerances.

  • 1. Exclusion diet and challenge testing.
  • 2. IgG blood testing.
  • 3. Bioelectrical Impedance Measurement.
